Unit 1: Politics, Science, and Business of Sustainability

Workload Expectations

To complete this course you should expect to spend 6–8 hours each week reading, communicating with your colleagues and instructor, and completing activities. How long you actually require depends on several variables, including your entry-level knowledge about the topics we cover and your personal level of interest.

Teaching in this subject uses techniques of e-learning. In particular, this course uses asynchronous communications and online delivery of education materials. You can study from home, at work, or on the move. There is no need for you to attend any particular physical location for any purpose.

We have designed the activities and discussion questions to encourage and help you improve your professional skills and knowledge—whether for a current or expected future role. Activities are designed to help you solve professional and work-related problems by synthesizing and applying relevant information in original and constructive ways.

Peer-to-peer student discussion forums are an essential learning tool in the course. For each section, after a period of individual reflection and consideration, you will be asked to contribute your thoughts on questions relevant to the study topic.  Students will be progressing through the course from different starting points; you can respond to a posting from any date, which contributes to the total archive.
