Succeeding in This Course

In preparing this course, we have assumed that you and your fellow students are self-motivated, disciplined, and determined to succeed. You are willing to share your work and educational experiences, and you accept critical thinking as part of the learning process. Furthermore, you are comfortable with and competent in written communications, and you recognize that effective learning can occur outside a traditional classroom. Most importantly, you want to control how, when, and where you learn.

A regular and disciplined study routine will be critical to your success in this course. Consistency is important. There are specific tasks to complete at each point in the course, and if you fall behind, it will be difficult to catch up.

Your grade for this course is based on a final exam. All activities throughout the course are designed to prepare you to successfully write it. Your learning can be greatly enhanced by interaction with your fellow students and instructor in the course discussion forum and student-created glossary. It is well known that teaching is the best way to learn, so be alert for opportunities to help others with the information and insight you can contribute. It is appropriate not only to discuss facts and concepts, but also the best way to learn and apply them.

  • Green computing is a rapidly changing discipline! You can make an important contribution by pointing out where the information has become outdated or new information needs to be added. The Broken Links, Errors, and Updates Wiki has been set up on the course home page for this purpose. Please use it often! This is a valuable part of the learning process—in today's educational setting, we are all co-learners working together to build knowledge.
