The following tasks are required of you for this section:

  1. Study the Seminar notes for this section and follow up with the additional readings until you feel you are ready to meet the learning outcomes for this section.
  2. Answer the study questions in your own notes. You can also post comments or queries on the study questions in the General Discussion Forum. Be sure to stay subscribed to this forum so that you do not miss posts from other learners.

    1. Question: Some major organizations have made claims about their greenhouse-friendly policies. Collect information from publicly available sources (the Internet, newspapers, business magazines), and analyze one major organization (in three paragraphs). Include references to your sources of information (with links to any web-based information). This analysis should highlight:
      • the energy strategy;
      • any use of ICT in the strategy; and
      • any energy reduction targets.
    2. Question: Explain the current status of measurement of ICT carbon footprint in your organization (or an organization of your choice) in three paragraphs. Are there measures or targets for CO2e, embodied energy, or energy use for telecommunications, data centres, or desktop PCs?
    3. Question: Describe (in up to three paragraphs) any greenhouse reduction strategies in your organization (or an organization you are familiar with). Do these involve ICT?
  5. Post a response to the postings of at least one of your fellow learners.
  6. Add or edit at least one entry in the Student-created Glossary.
  7. Complete the self-test, which has randomized questions, as many times as you wish. You will get a slightly different set of questions each time.
