Industrial Relations 308: Occupational Health and Safety examines the subject of worker safety and health in the workplace. It introduces core occupational health and safety (OHS) concepts and explores the structures and processes of Canada’s OHS system. It does so with the recognition that safety cannot be examined without also considering the power dynamics that operate both within and around the job. Conflict around OHS is driven by inherent differences in interest and power between workers and employers. This course will look at topics in OHS within their political and economic contexts. It also looks at emerging workplace safety issues in the 21st-century economy.
